Design and glass cutting of Silver Birch

Process 1

Imagining and drawing out a design are the first steps in creating a large garden piece.

Cutting and shaping the individual pieces from chosen glass, requires patience and precision.

Next they are lightly glued to clear glass ready for a first firing.

Once cooled and out of the kiln the next process is to add the Silver Leaf.

Then back into the kiln to fuse it permanently onto the glass.

Lastly, and one of my favourite additions, drawing is added using traditional lead paint applied with a nibbed pen.

One more firing is needed to attach the lead drawing to the glass.

So its finished…. well nearly. Once washed thoroughly, the glass is drilled with a diamond tip drill and ready to install in a metal garden frame with small bolts and o rings to safely secure it.

Now its time to find a great spot in your garden where you can enjoy how the light can change its beauty throughout the day.
